I’m Not Feeling You Dying Jesse Helms
Because I guess I’m not really feeling anyone dying. However, amid the glowing obits and praising let’s not forget this little rational for arguing against any kind of HIV research:
“Nothing positive happened to Sodom and Gomorrah,” he said, “and nothing positive is likely to happen to America if our people succumb to the drumbeats of support for the homosexual lifestyle.”
Nice, right? He also once threatened to physicaly harm Bill Clinton, but that’s more understandable. Anyway, my condolences to his family.
it was jesse helms and his battles with the NEA in ‘89-90 that got a 12 year old me to start paying attention to politics. so, mr. helms: thanks for terrifying me into educating myself. i actually thought of you not too long ago when i was at the de young in san francisco, seeing the gilbert & george retrospective. youd’ve really hated it. godspeed.
