I’m Not Feeling You GM Bailout Plan

Feeling pretty bad about killing the electric car now, huh? I know the economy sucks and all, but isn’t it possible you would be in much better shape if you made cars that people wanted to buy. It kind of makes me not want to give you 25 billion dollars. Sucks for you… and the 3 million people who will be out of a job if you go bankrupt.

  1. i agree up to a point. the auto industry is a bit like an avon lady who just goes door to door with her avon that no one’s buying. so she just keeps spending more money on even more avon to sell, rather than making the switch to a more marketable product, like encyclopedias. or drugs.

but- and i might be biased, as someone who lives in the detroit area- if the auto industry fails, things could get really bad. things are already *pretty* bad out here, and the state is way too broke to handle that many unemployed workers, uninsured families, etc. it’s like ‘roger & me’ times a million. think of the bunnies.

so why not give the industry some of that money obama kept pledging towards ‘green jobs’? toyota has offered us definitive proof that hybrids sell. give the big three money, and stipulate that they have to use it to develop more fuel-efficient cars and allocate some of the money for r&d.

and yeah, i realize this is a wildly inappropriate comment on a blog such as this.

  2. Since when is a company going bankrupt a bad thing?
If they run out of cash, then that’s bad management.

If they go chapter 11 they can renegotiate with the Unions and lower costs.

Nissan, Toyota and Honda do not have these problems and they have plants here.
